FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is tuckpointing?

Tuckpointing is the process of replacing deteriorated mortar between bricks, restoring both the visual appeal and structural integrity of your bricks. We recommend getting this done once every 25 years or so; neglecting your bricks can lead to cracks, which can lead to water entering your home.

Should I let ivy / plants grow on my home?

We do not recommend growing plants on brick walls. Climbing plants force tendrils and roots into cracks in the wall, enlarging them over time. This combined with natural freezing/thawing of water during the winter accelerates the aging of your brickwork. Ultimately, it dramatically reduces the lifetime of your brickwork.

Additionally, removing plants after a long time can be quite a hassle, and can even cause further damage if not handled by a professional.

Can I tuckpoint my own house?

The purpose of tuckpoint is to restore the visual appearance AND structural integrity of brickwork. If you compare a DIY (do-it-yourself) tuckpointing job to a professional tuckpointing job, it is easy to spot the difference.
